LUCCA, Italy — The Italian premiere of Thor: The Dark World was on center stage at the Lucca Comics & Games Festival Saturday, a special day dedicated to films featuring films involving the Norse god and dubbed SaTHORday by festival organizers.
The fest also screened the original Thor film as well as The Avengers, but it was sold out back-to-back-to-back sold out screenings of Thor: The Dark World that attracted the most attention, drawing an enthusiastic response from those at the screenings.
Producers did not send any cast members to the premiere, though protagonist Chris Hemsworth taped a video introduction to the film specifically for the festival and some of the dubbers working on the Italian language version of the film were on hand.
The new Thor film will go into wide release in Italy Nov. 20, from Disney Italia.

Also on tap Saturday was a dress-up event tied to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which will premiere later this month at the Rome Film Festival. The competition’s winner, 20-year-old Lisa Perini, who dressed and wore makeup like a character from Capital City in the film, won an expense paid trip to the Rome festival to attend the premiere.
Organizers report that attendance has so far been strong at the event, which got underway Oct. 30 and concludes on Sunday. Over the first two days of the event, reports are that more than 100,000 people — many dressed in costumes — attended the festival, more than doubling the population of the picturesque Tuscan town of 85,000 residents.
