Showtime is embracing Jackie’s high.
The premium cable network has abandoned its typical pill-popping posters to promote Edie Falco-starrer Nurse Jackie with a head-spinning psychedelic look and the tagline, “Objects are higher than they appear.”
The official key art plays off the dramedy’s fifth-season finale, when Jackie (Emmy-winning Falco) abandoned her sobriety and popped a pill before heading out the door for her one-year party.
STORY: ‘Nurse Jackie’ Boss Talks Jackie’s Surprising Decision
Season six will find Jackie returning to battle the demons of her addiction in a daily high-wire act with no net. She’s juggling a real relationship with Frank (new series regular Adam Ferrara), her ex-husband Kevin (Dominic Fumusa) and her wise-beyond-her-years daughter Grace (Ruby Jerins). Complicating matters even further is Jackie’s new sponsor, Antoinette (Go On‘s Julie White, a Southern realtor who becomes Jackie’s AA sponsor — and her potential match.
“There needs to be consequences; you can’t just do it as a one-time thing and say to the audience, ‘Hey, come back and watch year six and she’s on the wagon again,’ ” showrunner Clyde Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter following June’s season finale. “I don’t think that’s fair to the dynamic of authentic storytelling. Her struggles will be even deeper next year.”
Nurse Jackie returns April 13 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
