Gurkha 125th anniversary robusto – pre-light aroma of leather and oak. Tight, habano wrapper that gives to the touch with no hints of oil. Lights easily, with a full, open draw. Opens up with flavors of soft leather and some a trace of floral notes on the back palette. There is a slight uneven burn on the one I am smoking (by no means normal for those I have enjoyed before) but that is easily excused by the flavor. The cigar calms down quite a bit in the middle third, with a bit of harshness on the back – this, however, may be my own fault for letting it cool a bit while typing. Remember the old rule while smoking with comrades: if your cigar goes out, you’re talking too much. The sweet spot here is the back third, but you have to take off the huge label to really enjoy it. The ash is relatively strong, with a dark grey color and lines of black. The flavors of this gurkha are fairly consistent throughout the line, and this is a cigar that I really enjoyed. Its no wonder that we rated it so highly in Cigar & Spirits Magazine.
