Specialty wheelchairs and equipment for disabled athletes was stolen during a burglary at the River Cats Independence Field storage facility.

Sacramento Police say two storage sheds along Meadowview Road near the Pannell Meadowview Community Center were vandalized.

The City of Sacramento’s Parks and Recreation Department said the door of the storage facility was broken, and the theft and damage to the equipment could top $25,000.

Items that were stolen include specialized bicycles, portable scoreboard, beep baseball bases for the blind, tennis racquets, PA system, sport and rugby wheelchairs, plus other baseball and specialized equipment for kids and adults with disabilities.

Independence Field was opened in 2005 and is open to athletes of all ages and all abilities, for a variety of sports.
