ROME – The Rome Film Festival Tuesday announced a half-dozen international A-List actors and directors who will attend the Nov. 8-17 event and participate in audience encounters.
Organizers also announced the makeup of the seven-person jury that will select the best first or second feature, which will be headed by Italian director Roberto Faenza.
Festival organizers have so far sidestepped most questions about talent that will appear on the red carpet of the 8-year-old event this year. Marco Mueller, the festival’s second-year artistic director, told journalists to direct their questions on the topic to distributors and not to him when the bulk of the lineup was announced.
But on Tuesday, a small bloc of big-name industry figures were unveiled, including prize-winning directors Wes Anderson, Spike Jonze, Roman Coppola, and Alex de la Iglesia, along with acclaimed actor John Hurt. They joined Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme, previously announced as coming to the festival in connection with his latest feature, Fear of Falling.
Jonze’s latest, Her, will have its international premiere in competition in Rome.
Also on hand will be Italian comic Checco Zalone, whose latest film, Sun in Buckets (Sole a catinelle), just broke the national record for opening weekend ticket sales, besting the standard set by his previous film nearly three years ago.
Joining Faenza on the jury that will select the Taodue Golden Camera Award for best first or second feature will be director and screenwriter Fausto Brizzi, television personality Carlo Freccero, journalist and art historian Alessandra Mammi, writer and director Valerio Mieli, and producers Camilla Nesbitt and Andrea Occhipinti.
