Mad Men may have had a more modest premiere-night showing on Sunday, but early time-shifting has the AMC drama closing the ratings gap with last year’s premiere.
STORY: Where Is ‘Mad Men’s’ Netflix Bump?
The first DVR data for Mad Men‘s seventh and final season opener have the episode growing nearly 75 percent among adults 18-49, to 1.8 million viewers, in live-plus-3 data. Among total viewers, the episode is up 62 percent to 3.7 million viewers. That’s a significant improvement from the first-round time-shifting last season, leaving the series now only 15 percent shy of the comparable premiere.
It’s also apparent that the viewers still watching Mad Men on AMC are wealthy. Excluding pay cable, the episode retains Mad Men‘s status as having the most affluent audience in TV. Fifty-four percent of its adult viewers 25-54 earn north of $100,000 a year.
AMC split the final season in two, so there are only six more episodes before the show closes up shop for a year and returns with a final seven in 2015.
