It was another busy Sunday night on cable. And the series premiere of AMC’s Turn was pitted against the record-breaking return of Game of Thrones on HBO and Showtime’s Shameless season finale.
AMC’s latest drama opened with 2.1 million viewers at 9 p.m. The 90-minute debut, which preludes next week’s regular outing leading into Mad Men, also took in 669,000 adults 18-49 and 714,000 adults 25-54.
The numbers are modest, to be sure — but unlike most AMC launches in recent memory, Turn did not benefit from any kind of lead-in. With a back-to-back encore, Turn grossed 3 million viewers for the night.
Turn is one of just a few new series heading to AMC in 2014. It will be joined by Halt and Catch Fire and Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul later in the year.
Mad Men kicks off the first half of its final season this coming Sunday.
