The above tweet by freelance writer Suey Park says it all.
The hashtag NotYourAsianSidekick was apparently launched about 8 this morning Pacific Time and took off, with Asian Americans on three continents giving their random thoughts and observations about seemingly everything Asian American.
Park announced her intentions on her Facebook page yesterday.
I’ll be hosting a conversation using #NotYourAsianSidekick tomorrow morning go discuss Asian American feminism, stereotypes, myths, pressing issues, masculinity, cross-ethnic coalitions building, diversity within AAPI, immigrant experiences, generational clashes and more! Please join me and spread the word!
By this morning, it had become the number one trending topic in the United States on Twitter. Seemingly everything has been on the table from homophobia to fetishness to disability rights. The amount of participation has been incredible. If you get a chance, check out #NotYourAsianSidekick and join the conversation.
