Monday was the final day to sign up for health insurance through President Obama’s healthcare law, which meant long lines at the Service Employees International Union’s enroll-a-thon.

“You first get in the door, you have a couple greeters, they take your name, you sit down and wait for about 45 minutes,” a newly-insured Michael Ensley said. “Then, you get reassigned to another seating area and you wait approximately two hours.”

A three hour wait in line.

That’s not factoring in the time many spent online, trying to enroll on a website flooded with last-minute insurance shoppers.

“Actually, it was very confusing. Sometimes, the site would go down. Sometimes, you would click on a link an it would say that page no longer exists,” Carol Ybarra said, in line for the SEIU’s in-person sign up event.

Ybarra said the volunteers at the 17-hour enroll-a-thon made the process easier, but not really faster. Even the SEIU was having computer problems.

Michelle Fuqua, who’s been uninsured for eight years, came to the event after trying and failing to sign herself up.

“They just kept pointing me to a line after line, then a another line, of course, to the next step,” Fuqua told FOX40.

The SEIU will be enrolling people until midnight at 1911 F Street in Sacramento.
