Is anyone using DECT cordless phone? Is DECT that much important to spend extra premium? Many people use 2.4GHz phones. Does someone has first-hand experience? Suggestions....
There is one on Amazon: Panasonic KX-TG 6511B DECT Cordless Landline Phone
I bought Panasonic KX-TG6511B earlier this year. And it has worked well. I have made calls on the second floor with the base unit on the ground floor. It works well in the basement too. I went for DECT model because the base unit is placed besides an Airtel wireless router. Both the devices give great range. I do not have a regular cordless phone to provide comparative analysis. but for me, it worked out well.
3 handset combo of pana dect was 4100 after cashback on Paytm. I delayed a little and it is now out of stock. Flipkart has one for 2200 from vtech but it is imported one with seller or no warranty.
I was thinking to buy one but changing channel has worked the trick for me. And now my 2.4ghz cordless works without any interferences to my poor airtel wifi.
I think 2.4ghz can work but you need to change channels on wifi or cordless to find what works for you.
Those apps r good for wifi, but I don't think cordless can show you which band you are on. And cordless bring the wifi down only when u r on call not all the time.
Wifi network seems congested around my house(mostly upto 30% of max signal strength). Almost all channels have signals. My wifi router supports channel 13 that I am using.
I think cordless n landline phone r picking trend after these free unlimited n night call pack by airtel n bsnl resp. Even more with mobile call drops.
Infact we got airtel wireline just to enjoy unlimited calls. BB is complimentary kind of whenever by excitel goes down.
same. i got the cordless for dad as vodafone coverage is horrible at my place. and he is not yet interested in porting out again.
i got the rs. 99 package on airtel. he barely manages to make rs. 250 worth of calls from the phone. but his vodafone bill has basically gone half.
i wanted to get additional handsets but no one else in the family appears to be interested in using clunky cordless phones. the ui is horrible and slow to use. storage is only for 50 numbers! but it works through the house. in the basement to the second floor.
Same Panasonic model seems to be with/without DECT (as per photo and/or descriptions) at different websites.
For example, Panasonic KX-TG6511 at Amazon.in: DECT in description in and in photo Flipkart: neither in description nor in photo
Shopclues: neither in description nor in photo, same confirmed by seller Paytm: DECT in photo, but not in description
PayTM has best price after discount, 1 year panasonic warranty and 15 day return policy.
ah well. as long as the model number is exact, you should be safe. dect is not a well known terminology here in india so i am guessing no one bothered to highlight it in the product description.
also... i am not sure if the units being sold by local stores are made for the indian market. the one i got from the us did not have a universal power supply so i had to find a local charger for it. also, the model is not compatible with indian caller id standard so you might need to buy an additional adapter from ebay or elsewhere if you need that functionality.
At Amazon.in, DECT model number has additional B in the end: KX-TG6511B.
Seller has confirmed about compatibility with caller id and 220V supply in India.
Flipkart and eBay has model KX-TG6511 that is without DECT.
Paytm has more confusing details. Model KX-TG6511 with DECT model in photo.
I can't find a way to ask questions to seller at Paytm.
