MODESTO –

Two Stanislaus County Courthouse clerks were arrested for embezzlement and taken to the Stanislaus County Jail on Thursday.

Both Dawn Marie Rios, 57, of Riverbank, and Barry Lesko, 32, of Modesto are accused of taking money from cash payments of court fees. These payments would be accepted and marked as paid, but would later be voided in order to not show up on the register.

Lesko was found out after a person submitted proof of payment in response to notifications of not paying the mentioned fee.

Rios worked as a court clerk, filing fees at the courthouse for ten years. Lesko worked for nine years at the Traffic Division near Floyd Avenue and Orchard Park Way.

Officials say there is no evidence that Rios and Lesko were working together.

Ruben Dominguez filed this report.
