Drop Dead Diva creator/executive producer Josh Berman says there will be no unresolved questions once the series ends its run on Lifetime.
“The nice thing about getting the word that it’s the final season, it allows us, the writers and the actors, to really prepare and give a final chapter to the Drop Dead Diva saga,” he told reporters in a conference call. “I think even those viewers that just watch occasionally or the ones that watched every episode, this is going to be a very satisfying season where all the ends are tied up.”

Lifetime previously canceled the show only to bring it back for a fifth season, but Berman said he’s been told that this, for certain, will be the last season. He says he was informed of that news while writing the season five finale.
“Their point of view was they wanted to give us enough time to really bring closure to our characters’ lives and to the story,” he said.
Season five ended with Grayson (Jackson Hurst) realizing that Jane (Brooke Elliott) might not in fact be Jane, but his late fiancee, Deb. The season six premiere kicks off eight hours later, with that storyline continued.
“We really dive into the truth,” he said. “You know, the truth is out there, so to speak, and the characters have to deal with the fact that Jane hasn’t always been honest with the fact that she is really Deb. And certainly those reasons make sense to the writers and to the character of Jane, but Grayson may not be so sympathetic to the truth.”
He also promises “lots of twists and turns” where Grayson and Jane’s relationship is concerned as well as consequences related to Jane’s decision to tell Stacy (April Bowlby) — and not Grayson — the truth about her real identity upon her return to Earth.

“This season rewards the viewers that have stood by and watched to see what would happen with that relationship,” Berman said, adding that he is completely focused on the final season of Diva and hasn’t yet thought about what he’ll do next.
As for Elliott, she says of the Jane-Grayson relationship: “What I love about this upcoming season … is that the truth is out. … And I think our fans are — the ones who have followed us from the beginning — I think that they’re just going to love the fact that we’re kind of calling a spade a spade and seeing what happens. And I just think it’s really exciting and really fun and I think people are going to love it.”
Sony Pictures TV-produced Drop Dead Diva’s sixth season debuts at 9 p.m. on Sunday with a two-hour premiere. Guest-stars this season include Corbin Bleu, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Virginia Williams (One Life to Live), Colin Egglesfield, Rick Springfield, Janel Parrish (Pretty Little Liars), Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus and John Ratzenberger, who returns as the father of Kim (Kate Levering).
