Panasonic confirmed that it would preview its developing 4K version of its Varicam digital camera — aimed at filmmaking, TV production and live event coverage — at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show, April 7-10 in Las Vegas.
A prototype has been displayed at prior events including the 2013 Inter BEE in Tokyo.
During a pre-NAB press briefing on Thursday, the company reported that the camera, dubbed the Varicam 35, would incorporate a newly-developed super 35mm MOS image sensor supporting 4096 x 2160 (17:9) using the company’s AVC-Ultra codecs for 4K.

According to Panasonic, the camera accommodates 4K, 2K and HD, and could handle 4K Raw.
The company also intends to preview the Varicam HS, a 2/3-inch VariCam supporting high-speed 1080p.
Both cameras are scheduled to be available in the fall; pricing was not announced.
Other planned NAB introductions from Panasonic include a new version of its P2 solid-state recording media, the expressP2 card, designed for high frame rates and 4K; the AJ-PX270, the company’s first P2 HD handheld camcorder with AVC-Ultra recording support; and the AV-HS6000, a 2 M/E switcher with 32 HD-SDI and two DVI-D inputs, and 16 HD-SDI outputs.
