SALIDA-

Possibly up to five armed men reportedly forced their way into a home Wednesday night in Salida, which ended in a father and son being shot.

Thursday, the returned from the hospital but the entire neighborhood is shaken up. His father will spend another night under doctors’ watch.

“Well, so far, there are no arrests in this violent home invasion robbery but the family is just grateful to be alive,” Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Sergeant Keith Rakoncza said.

The men reportedly demanded jewelry and cash when the father and son fought back, allowing the rest of the family – a mother and 8-year-old son – to escape and call for help. After the shooting, investigators say the men drove away.

“Faith in the Lord has brought us together and that’s all I want to say right now,” the mother said. She declined to be identified.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
