Following the success of titles such as Scott Pilgrim, The Sixth Gun and Letter 44 in recent years, Portland, Oregon’s Oni Press is growing with the hire of Tim Wiesch as vp business development for the publisher.
Wiesch has spent the last five years as the director of foreign licensing for Dark Horse Comics. According to Oni, he’ll be handling similar duties in his new position, although the official release notes that “that’s far from all [he] will be responsible for.”

“Our goal is to grow our company and brand and to continue pursuing new avenues and opportunities for our titles and creators,” Oni founder Joe Nozemack said in a statement accompanying the news. “With his experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm, Tim is an incredibly strong candidate to help us crush that goal and continue expanding.”
In addition to an expanding publishing slate, Oni Press has attracted interest from movie and television producers over the past few years. Edgar Wright adapted Scott Pilgrim for Universal in 2010, The Sixth Gun made it as far as a pilot for NBC last year and NBC Universal is currently developing both Ghost Projekt and Letter 44 as television projects with Oni’s sister company, Closed on Mondays, attached as producer.
In the announcement, Wiesch was quoted as saying he’s “really excited” to join the company. “They’ve been doing some absolutely incredible books over the last few years, and I can’t wait to help bring them to fans all over the world and help expand Oni Press’ brand and global presence,” he said.
