WHEATLAND-

It’s the Big Wake Weekend sequel that nearly never was.

“Two weeks ago we didn’t think this was going happen,” says promoter Bob Richards.

The weekend event featuring drag boat racing and music at Camp Far West in Wheatland moved locations.

This go around, the boat racing became less of a priority, while 11 musical acts were added.

“We have great local band, a mixture of country and rock,” says entertainment director Cliff Huey.

The new year also brought a new name, “Roar at the Shore.”

Local boat racers from around the Sacramento area will be the main show on the water this time.

“If you know gas prices, this makes it much easier,” says Joe Gonzales of Vacaville.

Richards says poor attendance in 2013 created a financial shortfall and legal trouble. He is currently in litigation with H1 Unlimited over unpaid monies,  following the event’s debut at Folsom Lake last year. Richards is due in court in July to face fraud charges.

Big Wake Weekend runs through Sunday in Yuba County.
