I saw this ad for a new promotional plan available for Karnataka on their
regional website.

This plan is promotional for the next 90 days from 6th July 2015.

Check the plan details on page 3 of this document here:

My Existing BSNL connection was on NIB-1 from 2006 onwards with
no hassles. I was migrated to NIB-2 (when I was in Mumbai) somewhere
in May 2015 when the free night unlimited calls started.

My existing plan is BBG Combo 845 (1 Mbps to 6 Gb and then 512 Kbps).
I was getting flat 1mbps in this plan since it was introduced ( No FUP)
as long as I was on NIB-1. Unfortunately the party has stopped 🙁

I was thinking of migrating to this new 8 mbps plan subject to feasibility by BSNL.

How long do promotional plans stay active after expiry of the promotional period?

My line stats are pretty decent with a SNR Downstream of 34 db.

I also have an Airtel 1mbps unlimited connection with NO FUP (true unlimited)
as a backup connection.

My monthly usage on BSNL in the earlier days was around 80-100gb per month
and Airtel around 35-40 Gb. I use airtel mostly for downloading since the past
month since there is no FUP.

Is this a good upgrade? Or should I wait for some better plan to arrive?

Sad that Chennai doesn't get this treatment. ULD 1091 seems to be a good plan bro!

They accepted that I could get upto 6.5-7 mbps on the basis of the line stats.

I submitted a request for plan change accordingly mentioning that the port
speeds be set at 8192/1024 in order to enjoy upto 8mbps. This was confirmed
by the SDE who said line stats will automatically change at the DSLAM.

The plan changed in the evening today. Selfcare website shows a blank
line where my plan is supposed to be 🙂

And horror of horrors my line stats are still at 2048 / 640. Looks like another
long day spent at the exchange with the SDE. Morons!

I'm able to get only 1.75 mbps so far. I don't expect to get 8 Mbps but realistically
upto 7 should be decent enough.

Here is the latest speedtest.

Will update the saga in the coming days.

Met the Engineer in the NOC for my city. He was able to do a port
change from his terminal itself. Apparently they can do this via a telnet
to the Huawei DSLAM. I am mapped to a server in Karwar!!

Here are my revised line stats. The SNR has gone down pretty steeply
I'm still on the G.dmt modulation for stable connects.

And this is the latest speedtest. It's not exactly 8 mbps but then again
I'm okay with these kind of speeds knowing BSNL.

All in all a decent enough bargain for 1091. Pity this plan isn't there for other users in
other states.

Ok another issue now. I had stable speeds for a day.

Now I get disconnected automatically every so often. Complained at the NOC
showing my connection logs from selfcare.

They say the only way out is to reduce my profile settings to 4mbps or so
since my upstream SNR is below 10. This means I will get speeds upto
3.5 mbps only 🙁(

I tried changing the modem but the issue of disconnects persists. Yesterday
I was connected for > 12 hours without any issue. My line stats are the same
no changes. The ADSL link is stable.

I am using a bridge connection to connect.

Both my modems are old Beetel 110TC1 and Huawei MT880.

Do you think this could be the culprit?

Update. Tried with a new Tenda modem borrowed from a local dealer.

It's all he had in stock. Same issues. Disconnects after a few minutes.

Looks like I will have to call the NOC for a profile reset.

I migrated to ULD 1091 in Chennai earlier this week and had to go through the same problems faced by Zerosleeping! The new plan was activated on the same day of my application but the download/upload speeds were still as per old plan. Finally, after a visit to the telephone exchange, got my speed upgraded to 8 Mbps from 4 Mbps. Strangely, my upload speed got downgraded to 252 Kbps from the earlier 380 Kbps. Unfortunately, I did not check the upload speed before migrating to the new plan and now when I try to look for information, there is not much details available about this plan on the BSNL Chennai website.

What will happen after three months if I opt to this plan? Will I continue the same or revert back to my old plan?
