MOSCOW — Latvia’s entry for the best foreign Oscars and Golden Globes has sold to India.
Mother, I Love You, directed be Janis Nord — a touching drama about the young son of a single mother who is in danger of going off the rails, but is pulled back from the brink at the eleventh hour — has been picked up for all rights by the Children’s Film Society of India.
A Jury Awards winner at this year’s Berlinale Generation program and the LA Film Festival, the film tells the story of a 12-year-old Raimonds who, while trying to cover up a bad note at school, starts a spiral of lies that spins out of control. He has to venture into the thrilling nightlife of Latvian capital Riga to save his saxophone, his friendship and his face in front of his mother. It’s a powerful family story about the healing power of truth.
World sales of the domestic box office hit are being handled by Warsaw-based New Europe Film Sales, which has already sold it to South Korea.
The Indian sale came after packed screenings at seven different festivals in the country, including Goa’s IFF and the International Children’s Film Festival of India in Hyderabad.
