TORONTO — Rob Ford on Thursday said he smoked “a lot” of marijuana last year.
That was before he called for Canada’s ruling Conservatives in Ottawa to decriminalize pot smoking, even while insisting they won’t do it.

“That probably won’t happen up here because we have a Conservative government,” Ford told The Sports Junkies, the Washington, D.C., sports radio show on 106.7 The Fan, where the mayor appears on air weekly to make NFL game picks.
“They’re very strict when it comes to marijuana and any other drugs, so it’s not going to happen here. Maybe down in the States, but not up here,” he added.

Ford, who has also admitted to smoking crack cocaine, said he favored the Canadian government making money from the sale and taxation of legalized marijuana.

The Toronto mayor, now moonlighting as a U.S. sports radio analyst, lost much of his political powers and became a global media sensation after admitting to excessive drug taking and drinking.
Ford has since filed papers to run for re-election as the Toronto mayor.
