Sony Pictures Classics has announced that it has acquired all North American rights to Magic in the Moonlight, the upcoming film from Woody Allen.
STORY: Woody Allen’s Next Film Gets Title, First Photos Released
Set among the high society of the south of France in the 1920s, the film stars Eileen Atkins, Colin Firth, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, Emma Stone and Jacki Weaver. The plot of the romantic comedy follows an Englishman who is brought in to help unmask a possible scam, and “personal and professional complications ensue.”
The film pairs Allen once again with his Blue Jasmine producers, Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson. Magic is shot by Midnight in Paris cinematographer Darius Khondji, while Anne Seibel, who also worked on Midnight in Paris, oversees production design.

The film is the seventh Allen acquisition by Sony Pictures Classics, who have also distributed Blue Jasmine, Midnight in Paris, Whatever Works, Sweet and Lowdown, To Rome With Love and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger.
Allen, 78, will be presented the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes this Sunday, Jan. 12. He is not expected to appear in person; Diane Keaton will accept the award on his behalf.
