Natural Sciences, a coming-of-age story from Argentine director Matias Lucchesi, has won the Crystal Bear for best film in the Generation Kplus sidebar for children’s films at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival.
The drama about a young girl going on a search for her absent father, took the top prize awarded by the Generation Kplus international jury, who called it “a captivating tale with wonderful acting and a clear vision. Strong in its simplicity, the film touched our hearts.”
Special mention went to the Indian feature The Fort from director Avinash Arun. The drama about a boy trying to adjust to his new home in the Indian countryside, also received the best film prize voted on by the Generation Kplus children’s jury, a group of young people who watched all the films in the section’s under-14 category. A special mention from the children’s jury went to Joy of Man’s Desiring, Japanese director Masakazu Sugita‘s look at the impact a devestating earthquake has on a single family.
