A little Future Past, folks? In a replay of the first X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer’s debut, the movie’s final coming attraction was top of the list in its first week.
The third trailer for this summer’s mutant party scored 12.3 million YouTube views, according to technology firm Zefr, which monitors the numbers. The movie’s second trailer also made the top 10, finishing third with 1.9 million views. (Note the huge drop-off this week between No. 1 and the rest of the field; 10 million views separate No. 1 and No. 2, while fewer than 1 million views separate No. 2 and No. 10.)
The recent controversy notwithstanding, we’re pretty excited for this film. Each trailer is better than the last. The plot seems a bit convoluted but the action looks awesome. Bring on Marvel’s Mighty Mutants. Soon.
In the No. 2 spot is the debut trailer for The Rover, a dystopian Australian desert-set thriller starring Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson. The trailer scored 2.1 million YouTube views.
The other new trailer to make the top 10 was for Chloe Moretz starrer If I Stay, which landed in fifth place with 1.7 million views. The movie, based on Gayle Forman‘s best-selling YA novel about a girl who relives her life while in a coma following a car accident that kills the rest of her family, opens on Aug. 22.
Also of note in the top 10: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles‘ first preview continues to perform well (1.9 million this week, 45.7 million lifetime), placing fourth, and Zach Braff‘s Kickstarter-funded indie Wish I Was Here (1.4 million/6.2 million) sits at No. 9, its second consecutive week on the list.
