With The Big Bang Theory back in originals and ABC’s Scandal already out for summer vacation, CBS scored an easy win on Thursday night across the board. The top-rated comedy lost some steam, though, averaging a 4.3 rating with adults 18-49. Steady outings of both The Millers and Two and a Half Men took a 2.5 rating in the demo before the premiere of Bad Teacher.
Not the biggest swing its first at-bat, Bad Teacher did retain a solid portion of its Men lead-in with a 2.1 rating among adults 18-49. It was also improved from the latest showing of former time slot occupant The Crazy Ones. Still, it marks the network’s second-lowest-rated comedy opening to date, outperforming only fall’s We Are Men. At 10 p.m., Elementary averaged a 1.6 rating in the demo, also steady, giving CBS a 2.4 rating with adults 18-49 and 9.9 million viewers for the night.

Hell’s Kitchen (1.7 adults) and Surviving Jack (1.0 adults) both held last week’s scores on Fox, while a steady American Idol (1.8 adults) was off just a tenth of a point. Fox took a 1.5 rating with adults under 50 and 5.3 million viewers.
ABC opted to repeat last week’s Scandal-ized Jimmy Kimmel Live, which marked the series’ highest-rated showing in late-night ever, though the encore only fetched a 0.6 rating. After Grey’s Anatomy (2.3 adults) lost three-tenths from last week, Black Box opened in the Scandal slot with a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. The drama was improved from the comparable debut of Motive last spring but still came up short. (Black Box saw a minor marketing kerfuffle last week when executive producer Bryan Singer‘s name was removed from promos in light of sex abuse allegations.) ABC took a 1.4 rating in the demo and 5.7 million viewers for the night.
The one-hour season finale of Parks and Recreation inched up a tenth of a point from last week with a 1.0 rating. SNL special Digital Shorts followed with a 1.0 rating as well. NBC averaged a 1.0 adults rating and 2.5 million viewers for the night.
After an even Vampire Diaries (0.7 adults), Reign (0.5 adults) improved a tenth of a point for The CW.
