SACRAMENTO –

The deadline to sign up for Covered California is March 31st, and the organization and its supporters are making a final push to get people to sign up for healthcare.

Twenty-eight-year-old Jonny Gould is uninsured and says he’s as healthy as a bull.

“If they’re going to rely on us [healthy young people], they’re going to need to push us a little harder,”Gould said.

Covered California is trying hard to make that push. The executive director of Health Access California, Anthony Wright, says Covered California has 600 events going on throughout California in the next 11 days where people can sign up.

Supporters also know there are a lot of things that have to be fixed.

“We shouldn’t have to have 30 minute wait times on the phone. We shouldn’t have to have a back log in certain areas in certain systems,” Wright said.

Dana Howard, the deputy director of communications for Covered California says people need to start the process of signing up now so they don’t get left out. There’s also a fine for not signing up.

“Ninety-five dollars. Or one percent of your incoming whichever is greater,” Howard said.
