As an Academy Awards music consultant, scoring member of Hans Zimmer‘s Magnificent Six, newly reemerged solo musician and upcoming coach of The Voice, where does Pharrell Williams get his endless inspiration?
VIDEO: ‘SNL’ Recap: Anna Kendrick Auditions for Pharrell
Williams answered a few fan questions while on Good Morning America on Monday, noting that he is propelled by “that which doesn’t exist. You’re always looking for new things. Oblivion is the best place to search for new things.”
Wearing his now-signature Vivienne Westwood hat and the bejeweled Adidas sneakers he wore during his Saturday Night Live performance over the weekend, Williams also said that “family and friends” and “doing what I love to do every day, feeling like I get paid for nothing” makes him happy — and that his wife makes him feel “like a room without a roof” — but that he’s not necessarily happy all the time. “I’m a human being. Life has its valleys and peaks, but for the most part, I’m very appreciative.”

Williams also performed his Oscar-nominated Despicable Me 2 hit “Happy,” plus his G I R L tracks “Marilyn Monroe” — this time, without Zimmer and his all-female orchestra — and “Come Get It Bae,” his song with Miley Cyrus.
