CBS is moving forward with its new CSI spinoff.
The network on Friday ordered the Patricia Arquette starrer to series following Wednesday’s broadcast of the back-door pilot, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed after exec producer Jerry Bruckheimer broke the news on Twitter.
CSI: Cyber centers on how technology has amplified human behavior to the point where faceless criminals are committing crimes at global proportions with a touch of a button. Arquette will star as Avery Ryan, the special agent in charge at the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI in Quantico, Va., who is tasked with solving high-octane crimes that start in the mind, live online and play out in the real world.

With the pickup, the flagship CSI series has now spawned three spinoffs, including CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, which were canceled after ten and nine seasons, respectively. The new and as-yet-untitled CSI spinoff hails from creators Anthony E. Zuiker, Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue, who together penned the script for the CBS Television Studios drama and exec produce alongside Bruckheimer Television’s Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman. The spinoff is inspired by the work of cyber-psychologist Mary Aiken, who will receive a producer credit.
Additionally, sources tell THR that former CSI: NY showrunner Pam Veasey has boarded the series and will serve in the same capacity, marking her return to CBS. (She currently was a writer and consulting producer on the CBSTVS-produced CW drama The Tomorrow People, which was canceled this week.)

The CSI spinoff, which marks Medium alum Arquette’s return to broadcast TV, becomes the network’s second drama pickup for the 2014-15 television season, joining Vince Gilligan and David Shore‘s Battle Creek, which was picked up straight to series with a 13-episode order.
CBS has been high on spinoffs this pilot season, also attempting another offshoot from NCIS and How I Met Your Mother, with How I Met Your Dad telling an entirely new story. For its part, CBS already picked up NCIS: New Orleans to series. Both spinoffs join newly ordered dramas Stalker, Madam Secretary, Scorpion and previously announced Battle Creek; new comedies include The McCarthys and The Odd Couple. The fate of HIMYD remains unclear.
For its part, CSI ranks as one of the top global franchises in the world and is seen in almost every country across the globe. The flagship series has already been renewed for a 15th season.
