SEOUL — The Korean Film Archive (KOFIC) will host a forum for joint film projects between South Korea and Japan on Dec. 9-10 in Busan, where KOFIC recently relocated.
The annual event has been held since 2007 and features seminars, business meetings and workshops. A special focus will be on how Korean screen adaptations of Japanese novels and more have become more common in Korea recently.
As such, in addition to top film industry insiders, Wataru Okada, of Japan’s largest publishing firm Kadokawa, will take part.
A total 25 cineastes from Korea and Japan will attend the forum, including Kim Hyung-joon, producer of the 2004 Korean blockbuster Silmido; Noh Jong-yun, producer of the 2004 Korea-Japan co-production Rikidozan: A Hero Extraordinary; and Testujiro Yamagami, who distributed Lee Chang-dong’s 2010 Cannes-winning Poetry in Japan.
Also taking part is director Kim Sung-su, whose 2012 Korea-Japan joint venture Genome Hazard, is getting released in Japanese theaters in January next year.
