WOODLAND-

Police say Woodland residents can rest a little easier tonight, as an alleged member of a serial burglary ring turned himself in Saturday.

Mario Lopez, 23, was booked into the Yolo County Jail for burglary, probation violation, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, child endangerment and felon in possession of a firearm.

During the months of November and December 2013, the City of Woodland experienced more than 100 burglaries- a 40 percent increase from last year’s numbers.

Patrol officers and Detectives were following leads, and executed six search warrants on Thursday morning.

Authorities arrested six known criminals, 28-year-old Mark Lasonde, 24-year-old Kimberly Lalley, 37-year-old Jose Garcia, 30-year-old Blanca Hernandez, 22-year-old Elia Garcia, and 34-year-old Salvador Villa at six homes within the City of Woodland.

“All the people are intertwined,” Sgt. Brett Hancock of the Woodland Police Department said. “They know each other, for a lack of a better term, they are a ring.”

Authorities recovered everything from TV’s, laptops, tools, street signs, bicycles, even a key duplicator and a leaf blower.

“Some of it goes unreported because they don’t even realize they were burglarized,” Sgt. Hancock said. “Some of the items don’t get reported BC they don’t realize something got taken. A year later, they might realize it.”

Now that the seventh and possibly final member of the burglary ring had been arrested, residents of high target areas expressed their relief.

“I feel a little safer,” Luis Navarro, Woodland resident said. “It’s not cheap, but I think it would be worth it if I got a security system.”
