Jessica Meuse wound up in fourth place for season 13 of American Idol and is heading home – but only for a very brief stay.
After doing press interviews in New York, Meuse will be able to spend just one day in Slapout, Ala., before returning to Los Angeles with the rest of the top 13 to begin rehearsals for the May 21 season finale.
Meuse revealed her plans to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after her elimination from the competition. “I’m going to eat some fried chicken and drink some sweet tea and spend the day lying on the couch,” she said.

It’s not a surprising answer from someone who has been working seven-days-a-week and up to 18-hours-a-day, keeping up with the punishing schedule that Idol finalists have been enduring for 13 years.
Meuse has plans beyond her 24 hours in her hometown. She plans to pursue her career and record an album of southern rock music. She would also like to record a country music album. “I’m ready to write an entire CD,” she told THR. “Keith Urban told me he would introduce me to some of his friends in Nashville who could be helpful to my career.”

Meuse was still fighting tears as she did her press interviews after the results show. But she also exhibited great strength. Asked if she was surprised to finish in the top four, she replied, “After everything I’ve dealt with, I never imagined I would be here. After sleeping in my car and not knowing anybody to being in the top four of American Idol, it’s a huge honor. It’s so amazing and I’m so blessed. Life will never be the same.”
