Before the teams take to the football field, Robin Thicke and Kendrick Lamar will take center stage at the ESPN The Party.
STORY: Super Bowl Performer Bruno Mars Prepares for Cold Weather
The pre-game bash will be held on Friday Jan. 31 at the Lower Manhattan’s Pier 36/Basketball City — just a few miles from MetLife Stadium where Super Bowl XLVIII will be played — with former Grammy Award winner Jermaine Dupri also performing.
To celebrate the first time the big game has been played in the Big Apple, the theme of the night will be a “New York State of Mind,” with decor including a 40-foot red carpet from Shaw Floors, skyscrapers and a starry skyline, according to a statement from ESPN.
The Super Bowl itself will be played on Sunday, Feb. 2 with Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers braving the elements for the NFL’s first cold weather championship match-up.
Mars has already revealed that the prospect of chilly New York temperatures has got him preparing for a blizzard. “I know it’s going to be cold, and I’ve just got to face it,” he said.
STORY: Red Hot Chili Peppers Joining Bruno Mars’ Super Bowl Halftime Show
The city that never sleeps will be buzzing with stars throughout the weekend, with the Chili Peppers also slated to perform at a pre-Super Bowl show in Brooklyn for WFAN’s “Say Hello to Brooklyn” showcase at the Barclays Center on Feb. 1.
Maxim magazine is hosting parties on both Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, at Espace in Manhattan, with Lamar doing double duty by also performing at the Saturday night celebration.
The collaboration of sports and music will continue at ESPN with their upcoming ESPN The Magazine Music Issue.
