While the teaser for Purge: The Anarchy revolved around the plight of one couple with regrettable car trouble, the latest look at the film shows the mayhem that takes over when lawlessness hits city streets.
Once again featuring a creepy rendition of “America the Beautiful,” the horror title shows the various ways that people try to get by while utter chaos erupts. Like the first title, the conceit of the plot is that for one night every year there are no rules — leading to predictable anarchy.
STORY: Ethan Hawke’s Low Salary for ‘The Purge’ Turns Into Millions
The sequel, once again directed by James De Monaco, features Zach Gilford, Frank Grillo and Michael K. Williams in main roles. The original Purge, starring Ethan Hawke, was released on June 7 of last year. The film, budgeted at an estimated $3 million, grossed nearly $89 million worldwide.
The Purge: Anarchy had been set by Universal for release on June 20 of this year, but was shifted to July 18. It will now be released wide on the same weekend as Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis‘ sci-fi epic Jupiter Ascending and Disney’s animated Planes sequel.
