WINTERS-

Police in Winters are investigating a shooting that has taken the life of a woman along Railroad Avenue Monday morning.

Police confirmed to FOX40 that the woman – identified as 32-year-old Leslie Pinkston – was sitting in her car when she was shot in the head. She was helicoptered to the UC Davis Medical Center but later died.

People at the scene suspect that the single mother might have been involved in a domestic dispute of some sort, although that hasn’t been confirmed by investigators.

Residents in the small town were shaken by the incident and are even more uneasy because the shooter has not been found, nor has the murder weapon.

“We believe the suspect is still in possession of the weapon that was used and was seen leaving the area,” Chief Sergio Gutierrez with Winters Police said.

All six schools in Winters were placed on a precautionary lockdown. District officials say all students and staff are safe.

Lonnie Wong and Ian McDonald filed this report.
