And she’s not quite sure how she got there, or even if she wants to be involved. But Lily soon finds herself chasing the spirit of the realm while putting her own ghosts to rest. And only accepting the truth--about her heart and her country--can save her.

So. Many. Feels. I can’t decide if I love or hate Melanie right now. Oh, who am I kidding?! Of course I love her! Without her, I wouldn’t have had that cleansing mental breakdown. I feel much better now. ;)

Melanie Karsak has proven once again why this series will stand out among all of the other books I read this year. They are absolutely, 100% unforgettable. After such a strong first book, I wasn’t sure if she would be able to repeat the magic, but if anything, she doubled it. Whereas the first book was simply glorious, the second book is both glorious and emotional. I freely gave Melanie my heart the first go around, so now it is so easy for her to toy with it mercilessly. *Don’t squeeze it so tight, Melanie!* ;)

Lily continues to be one of the most exquisite and passionate protagonists I have ever had the pleasure of connecting with. When we last saw her, she was moving on with her life. She had made some important decisions about her love life, and about her health. She had made breakthroughs about where she was coming from, and where she was headed. Then the unexpected happens, and Lily is no longer in control. This is the point where the book takes a sharp turn into a whole new direction.

What makes this series believable (I’m totally buying stocks in the existence of fairies!) is the amount of research that has gone into it. I can’t even begin to guess the number of hours Melanie has spent digging through history, folklore or speculative technology. That kind of dedication comes across through her writing, and makes for a smoother trip through the opium and absinthe haze. Can’t wait for the sequel! I may or may not begin Melanie’s daily harassment in the hopes that it will quicken the book’s progress.

Be aware this series is incomplete.

At the start the heroine is restless, she is happy with Sal but misses parts of her old life.
She hears news that Lord Byron is dying so she goes to him.
This opens up a new thread to the story with mythical otherworldly side.

HFN.

I am honored to have received an advanced copy of Chasing the Green Fairy from the author for an honest review.

This review is going to be difficult because I'm afraid I'll give away something crucial. I'm going to tread lightly, and hopefully give you a glimpse into yet another amazing novel in The Airship Racing Chronicles without spoiling the plot.

When I saw the cover for this novel, I thought it was breathtaking! I still do! Like Chasing the Star Garden, the first novel in The Airship Racing Chronicles, the cover spoke to me, even before reading a single word. There are hints to Chasing the Green Fairy's story in the cover, and it speaks to the cover designer's talent.

Lily Stargazer is thrown into the midst of another adventure! Though this one starts with heartbreak. All I'll say is make sure you have plenty of tissue nearby. And don't read in public where you may have to explain that you're just distraught because of a novel.

Yet again, I am amazed at the amount of character background and details Melanie Karsak introduces without slowing the plot. Melanie said this one is more character driven, and oh boy was she right! I love learning how Lily and Byron met (and in true Lily fashion, it involves a broken nose), and seeing their relationship blossom into what it is today.

It was interesting to watch Lily grow in this novel. Her relationship with Sal is unique - yet so is her relationship with Byron. I find it fascinating how Lily deals with her relationships with both of these men.

Then we meet Robin. Whoa, I did not see that coming! No spoilers here, though.

The manor carved out of the side of the mountain is beautiful in my mind, and especially the room with the roots trailing down the wall, in which purple flowers are nestled. I could feel the magic - not only in the building, but in Melanie Karsak's writing.

Though this book has sad moments, there are more beautiful and mystical moments. And it is these moments that left me wondering about what I might find in the sunrise. If I truly looked and felt the magic of the moment, would I learn the ancient secrets of the realm?

While there is a notation to readers that this novel is for mature readers due to steamy scenes and depictions of drug use, I didn't find either to be offensive.

Any fans of steampunk, adventure, or fairy lore would love this novel! Melanie Karsak transforms simple words into beautiful moments and feelings. Get this book - but grab Chasing the Star Garden first - and witness the magic for yourself.

Chasing the Green Fairy is the second installment in Melanie Karsak’s Airship Racing Chronicles and what an emotional journey it was. From sabotaged airships, death, secret realms and decisions Karsak completely drew me in. Mini review: personal demons, heartbreak, beautiful, sweet and engaging.

The 1824 British qualifying race is weeks away, and spirits are high for Lily Stargazer and her trusty team, when one day changes everything. Her ship is sabotaged, and an urgent message is delivered forcing her to leave her team and Sal, the man she loves. Lily soon finds herself in the middle of Celtic mysteries, heartache and fairies. It is a hard journey that brings us closer to Lily.

I adore Lily and her misfit team, but this tale is focused more on Lily as she faces challenges, accepts new responsibilities and renews her determination. Karsak does an excellent job of fleshing out Lily, and I found myself rooting for this troubled, head-strong, and noble gal. Along the way, we meet old comrades and lovers. Each of the characters has their own voice, and the author brings these eccentric and delightful characters to life.

Chasing the Green Fairy still has airship racing, but this tale focuses more on Lily and has her facing some dark times. Her journey is a difficult one but brings us closer to her. This was an emotional ride, and as a reader I experienced many emotions from loss to elation. The thread on Celtic lore and the fairies was fascinating and completely captured my attention. While the steampunk gadgets weren’t as prevalent, we did see a few that had me excited. Sal, our beloved tinkerer, is in the midst of something wonderful, and we see some advancement with their relationship. The tale was well paced, with a few twists, and a little magic. My heart went out to Lily, as I felt every emotion she experienced. Gads, this girl, is one tough cookie with spunk and heart. Despite her own personal demons, she always does the right thing which makes things interesting as she stays true to her own course. The tale ended on a high note shedding the darker aspects and leaving me with hope as I eye her next adventure.

Chasing the Green Fairy was a welcome addition to the Airship Racing Chronicles bringing us closer to Lily. Chasing the Fog is the next book set to release in June.

So we’re back for round two with Lily Stargazer in Chasing the Green Fairy (The Airship Racing Chronicles book 2)! When last we left Lily she was set on getting clean, no more opium and no more absinthe. Karsak plunges us head first into the story when the Stargazer crew is preparing for the 1824 British airship qualifying race, but the misfortune of sabotage looms on the horizon. It’s easy for Lily to start pointing fingers when there are plenty of other teams who would love for the Stargazer to be put out of commission. But who really did it?

I had a lot of hopes for this book after having been so in love with the first in the series. Lily made a decision about her love life that haunted me, while she struggled with the possibility of having made the wrong choice – I also questioned it. While I made every effort to be satisfied with how things were going to be Karsak took me on a journey into Lily’s past explaining how it all began for Lord Byron and Lily. I fell even more in love with their story, and with Lord Byron. And once again she snatched the rug out from underneath me – then she proceeded to rip my heart out, stab it with a pair of scissors and then cut it up and throw it in the dirt.

description

*composes self* Where I found myself unable to connect with the characters in the first book Green Fairy made up for. This time around the book wasn’t as much action driven as it was character driven and I felt myself becoming deeply involved with Lily and friends.

So…gaze upon the beauty of that cover, prepare for the feels, and read this book!!

This story has it's heartache and what affects Lily deeply. This is a turn of a corner for Lily, once again. But the heartache will take Lily on a new adventure in the air and in her heart. About half way through the story this drastic turn comes to light. This new turn caught my attention and drew me to wonder what would come next and where we would go. It's almost as the second part of the book is a different story. Mysterious and magical. The first half was emotional and the second half brings us to a curious feeling.

****FULL REVIEW****
*This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com, at my request.

The qualifying race is coming soon, and Lily has woken to find the Stargazer has been sabotaged! Someone doesn't want them racing and wants to know what's made them so fast. The league for the qualifying races has changed it's rules. The winners of the qualifier, and racers of the World Grand Prix, will race around the world! And a dangerous race for all. With all the work needed on the Stargazer, Lily is called away to see Lord Byron. Lord Byron once again sends her on an extraordinary and out of this world adventure.

We have a different narrator this time. Danielle. She has the accents for Lily and those around her along with a lulling voice to flow with the words. But she doesn't have as many different tones for the different characters. Her voice works for the heartbreaking parts, and rises us up with the turn of events to bring us out of the haze we fell into with Lily.

Lily is cleaned up. But she still has her contacts in the opium world. Phineas is one she trusts to put the details together and figure out who is behind the destruction on her ship. But at Phin's she also talks to him about other things he's looking into for her. Temenos, her father. The mention of him since the adventure with Celeste had been tickling at her mind. Phin is also making a trip to check out a grave at the debtors prison as well...

The men in Lily's life...

In Chasing the Star Garden we got to know Sal. We even got to know her past and adoptive fathers. Here, we get to know Byron.

Lily's love, Sal. Lily seems to be questioning whether this is what she wants. She gets the feel that Sal sees her as his future wife and mother of his children. Is it nerves or something more? She's even agreed to move in with him above his new factory that will be opening. It seems Lily's actions at the end of Chasing the Star Garden has drawn eyes to Sal's invention. The parachute is something everyone wants now. And Lily has convinced him to produce the push button bodice.

We get detailed visits to Lily's past with Lord Byron and her ship, the Stargazer. Byron has been a huge part of Lily's life since she got the Stargazer, actually, just before she purchased the Stargazer. And unexpectedly he helped her in the purchase of it, and not in the normal fashion. Byron is one that Lily will always hold close to her heart.

Everyone has doubts and regrets. How you live with them and handle them is what works on you, or not. But we can hope and strive to live life to the fullest, with no regrets in the end. Clearing the regrets and doubts is a way to help feel one is living free and life.

Melanie has packed a lot of leads in the first five chapters. Much to come to pass and work it's way out as the story continues. And oh so much more to learn. There is much more to this world in which we are just starting to scratch the top of the barrel of. We get to see more of what the series is named after; The Airship Racing Chronicles. We get to see the league and ride in a race with Lily.

Joint review with Victoria

Karina:
This book definitely made me sad and happy at the same time. I absolutely loved the parts of old Lily when she was remembering how she met Lord Byron, but her losing him was upsetting, because I never quite warmed up to Sal.

Overall, this was an unexpected and gorgeous read. There was something whimsical about it. What do you think, Vika?

Vika:
It was certainly emotionally charged and I have to say that I didn’t expect Lily to turn to the dark side in such a dramatic fashion, but it made for an interesting story and a great character arc. Lily is almost like a phoenix, in the sense that she keeps re-appearing from the ashes of her life, over and over again.

As we last left her, her life seemed to steady a bit and she was recovering from her addiction, with Sal at her side; but unexpected news of Byron’s illness and the events that follow just send her down the dark spiral again. Understandably so though, as her addiction was always a coping mechanism for tragic past and unwelcome reality of life. But as the haze of opium begins to clear she once again has to face her choices, her fears, and herself…

Karina:
I have to admit, I did not expect the story to become downright magical in its second part, Vika. *hint in the book title* However, this is what I appreciate most about this series, - you never know where the author would take you next. There is no predictable plot. We wander around with Lily, and the reader is just as lost as her.

As to her addiction, I think she was in the right state of mind not to let it overcome her again, so with the help of her friend's concoction, she got back on her feet in no time.

There are three plot lines in this book: Byron and Lily's memories of how she met him (which was my favorite part); Lily's trip to claim her inheritance in the mysterious Arcadia; and her airship racing.

Vika:
I’m with you on this Karina! The magic definitely sets this book and series apart and brings it to life, creating a wonderful and exciting world.

I really enjoyed the scenes between Byron and Lily, both past and present, no matter the roller coaster of emotions. This book felt very much like “their” story (which I really enjoyed), but as Karina mentions there are other plot lines running the course as well. But I’m not certain what we are to make of the mysterious Arcadia estate and its inhabitants just yet. Time will tell and I’m certainly looking forward to it.

Karina:
Me too, and I am totally at a loss what it will bring us! 4.5/5 stars from me, peeps. I think I liked it more than the first one.

Vika:
It's 4 stars for me. I'm a bit on the fence with this one and will probably tell you that I still like the first one better; but then we always have the next instalment to look forward to where we'll be Chasing the Fog. *winks*

I had so many thoughts running in my head about this the second book in The Airship Racing Chronicles where would the story go, would I even enjoy it, was it going to be a disappointment after reading Chasing the Star Garden. I quickly discovered the answers to my questions and no Chasing the Green Fairy was not a disappointment! I enjoyed it immensely I was so in love with this story I didn't want it to end. I found a new love for Lily and so many of the rest of the characters. Chasing the Green Fairy had a different tale to be told than Chasing the Star Garden. This time around we learn more about Lily and some life altering secrets that could make or break Lily forever. I formed a new love hate relationship for Lord Byron and truly thought that I was beginning to understand him and could let myself truly love him only to learn that I shouldn't try to predict how a story should be told. Yes, I hate him again! Lily is in trouble and she needs a savior fast but, is there any help left and can they save her in time and still qualify for the race. Oh , my head was spinning and the anticipation was killing me I have to know how it ends I wanted to skip ahead and learn the end only I knew I would be missing out on something important if I did. I finally finished the book and set my ereader aside and instantly knew that this story is far from over and that I need to know more. Melanie Karsak as got me hook, line, and sinker. I can't wait for the next installment to this series I am positive that it is sure to be a winner for me.

Chasing the Green Fairy is the second book in Melanie Karsak’s, steampunk series The Airship Racing Chronicles. I love this series, and would give them both 10 stars if I could. I would recommend this book to a mature readers 18 years or older, due description of drug use and some steamy scenes, but who also loves an amazing story. I had never read steampunk before Chasing the Star Garden, the first book in the series, and now its one of my top two favorite genres. These books are seriously awesome, from front to back. I am especially drawn to the covers, they, themselves are a piece of art. I actually have Chasing the Star Garden on my book shelf, and I am itching to get Chasing the Green Fairy beside it. Lily, the main character of the series has come along way since Chasing the Star Garden. I absolutely adore Lily, she is an amazing character and very well written. Despite moments of weakness she is such a strong and loyal character. I think a lot of people could actually relate to Lily and her struggles. Be prepared to shed a tear or three, Chasing the Green Fairy is an emotionally driven story. I actually had to take a day to process a major event in the story, because I was in total shock over what happened. Sounds a little silly I know, but Melanie is that good of a writer. It was like I felt all of Lily’s emotions right along with her. I can’t wait to see what Melanie has in store for Lily and her friends in book three.

It was wonderful to dive back into the journey of Lily Stagazer. Picking up right where you left off in the first book of the series, we get to journey through her trying to navigate her new semi-so sober life and finding purpose in the world. Full of magic, mystery, and romance it was well worth the read.

Although the narrator changes from book one to book two, this narrator, Danielle Cohen was wonderful to listen too. I loved her tempo, character voices, and over energy she brought to each character.

I would recommend this book.

Series: The Airship Racing Chronicles #2
Rating: 3 stars - I liked it

The 1824 British airship qualifying race is only a few weeks away but Lily Stargazer finds herself struggling to care after receiving terrible news. She has to find herself again before the race but first she has to deal with Celtic mysteries, fairy lore, and her addictions.

This is a story about love, heartache, loss, finding yourself, and overcoming addictions. Lily goes through a very emotional and traumatizing shock in this one. She finds herself heartbroken and relapsing with her opium and alcohol addictions. We see Lily hit her lowest point, and struggle to find herself again and the will to put herself back together. I really loved Lily’s strength. She struggles but she never really gives up. Yes, she lets herself grieve and relapse for a while but she still pulls herself through.

I am heartbroken for Lily, but I am glad that she didn’t let her grief push her away from everyone else she loves, especially Sal. This event also pushed her to realize she only has one life and chance to live to her fullest, otherwise she will be filled with regrets. Once she realizes that she stops holding back from Sal and really embraces their relationship fully, which I loved seeing.

Overall, this was an emotional but great continuation of Lily’s story. I don’t know if there will be more books but I hope so because I really enjoyed her airship racing adventures.

Trigger Warnings: alcoholism, drug use, grief, extended illness, death, drug and alcohol relapses, withdrawal

I had very mixed feelings about this one. To be honest, if it was just another race book I probably would have been bored. I didn't mind the race being broken up by something else. In fact, the race was only a frame in many ways. To Lily's horror, someone has stolen the Stargazer's fancy new engine and the racing officials are trying to price the average airship pilot out of the grand prix, leaving it to the wealthy only. As if that wasn't trying enough for her sobriety, she gets word that Lord Byron is gravely sick in Greece.

In spite of theoretically being in love with Sal (her mechanic), she flies off to Bryon's side and a huge chunk of the book is dedicated to this love triangle part of the book. It wasn't really working for me. It dragged on a bit too long. I could handle it slightly altering of what really happened to Bryon (not by much) but it wasn't holding my attention.

Her inheritance from Byron was interesting. Secret societies, the Good Neighbors and all their dangers, Byron's half fae son. I did like this part and while I was sympathetic about Lily diving back into absinthe and opium, she does so much of it, I'm not sure how she's alive.

Finally she remembers the race, goes home, back to Sal and the race itself was exciting. However, this felt like it was a filler or a prelude to a steampunk-urban fantasy mash up with the faeries and the secret society Bryon leaves to her, than it did a true stand alone story.

Deepening the mixed feelings is the fact that in the years it took me to dust this off and read it, that the next book isn't out after four years. I don't know why but that is disappointing.

Boring

I really wanted to like this book but it didn't work. Racing teams require money but I don't see how the airship supports itself. The destitute captain travels around the world without needing money. The incredibly trite villain with the twirling moustache determined to stop the famous Scottish airship from winning the Big Race for what reason. Set this in 2010 and it's written as if it's a matter for MI5.

I enjoy getting books to read for free through Prime and have been grateful enough to overlook big flaws in writing, editing and basic continuity in plots sometimes.

Here characters aren't developed, plot elements are dropped in willy nilly, and I won't finish the series.

A diminished star

I'm having a hard time coming up with the reason for a lower rating of this book. While I have tremendous respect for Ms. Karsak's imagination, I struggled with the herione's journey. The disparity between such a strong character and her lapses into substance abuse seemed too much at odds.

What a fresh delightful tale

Like flying? Like airships? Like Steampunk? Like just truly all round nice characters that weave a really different tale and speak to life at the same time?

One of her best

Great characters. Lord Baron is fascinating and historically accurate. Lily’s romance is woven with known events. She could have been there. Made me go to other sources to read about him Thanks Melanie for broadening my horizons.

Melanie has a wonderful way with words. Reading her books in order, she bring her characters forward with such detail. I have not enjoyed any writer as much as I have enjoyed Melanie Karsak's writing in a long time.

I read this book at the beginning of the year, but my rating for it is so low that it's important to explain why, especially in the face of so many positive reviews for this story.

My difficulty with this novel is its inconsistency. The airship race at the end in itself deserves 5-stars for its excellent pacing, attention to detail, and imaginative use of steampunk elements. I would love for more of the novels to focus on the airship races and just on airships in general because Karsak writes about them fabulously. Lily is in her element during that race, and it is there that her characterization shines its brightest.

The mystery introduced at the beginning of the novel involving sabotage would have been very interesting to explore in more detail, but unfortunately, things don't turn out that way.

Now for the spoilery material:

Chasing the Green Fairy was a bit different from the first book Chasing the Star Garden, but I still loved it nonetheless. It wasn’t about chasing hidden treasures, but more about unravelling secrets. When something unexpected occurred, it left Lily to pick up the pieces and she questions her decisions.

It was interesting to see Lily's past and seeing her deal with the tragedy that occurred. She was unprepared for it and took it quite hard. She turned back to her dark habits of drinking and opium. When she finally awakens in a haze, she is on a solo mission to discover what will be in her future and to figure out what her heart wants.

Lily's heart has been pulled in different directions for some time and now that she has made a decision, she is forced to face it once again and is unsure if she made the right choice. She goes on a journey of self discovery, which turns out to be an insightful expedition. She learns a lot more than she bargained for and she proves that she is a kind and trustworthy person.

We didn't see a lot of the secondary characters in this book as the majority of the book is while Lily is travelling abroad, but they are still as dedicated as ever. The boys are looking forward to the next race and Sal is expanding his business and is still very much in love with Lily. Lord Byron plays a major role in the book as well and we learn more about when Lily first met him, which was a part of the book I really enjoyed.

Melanie has created a world that I love to dive into. This steampunk world is amazing and I enjoyed the Fey twist to this particular story. The reference to the Green Fairy throughout the book had me a little puzzled, but I liked the direction that it took. Also, when we participate in an actual race with Lily, it always gets my heart pumping!! Chasing the Green Fairy was a bit of an emotional read; I laughed at times but there were moments of sadness that brought tears and shattered my heart. There were a lot of interesting things that occurred and many loose ends in this book, so I'm keen to see where things will go now for Lily.

I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

We meet back up with Lily, Lord Byron, Sal, and the rest of the gang for more racing and mysteries but most of all we follow Lily as she struggles to come to terms with loss, love, and heartache.

We experience the past, present, and a possible future for Lily and the Stargazer crew. Current events mingle with Lily's memories and lead her into some very dark moments. My heart broke for poor Lily. I just wanted to give her a hug and assure her that one day things would be better.

If I had to use three words to sum up Chasing the Green Fairy they would be: loss, despair, and acceptance.

If you haven’t yet experienced the amazing writing of Melanie Karsak do yourself a favor and pick up book 1, Chasing the Star Garden and then enjoy catching up with Book 2, Chasing the Green Fairy.

Melanie has a gift for vivid description, amazing world building, and the ability to transport a reader into her creation from the first sentence to the last.

I look forward to my next visit with Lily and the Stargazer crew.

Summary: Love this series. It's a great blend of romance, steam punk, mystery, mythology, and life. It is dark yet hopeful. A wonderful escape into an amazingly built world with vivid descriptions and unforgettable characters.
memorable-quote-tag As I thought about regret, I realized two things: it was in my hand to mend some things for Byron and that I didn't want to live as Byron had, with a lifetime full of things unsaid or undone. What would I regret if I died tomorrow? -- Lily Stargazer, Chasing the Green Fairy, (Airship Racing Chronicles, Book 2)

I think I like this one even better than the first one. These two books were my first attempts at steampunk novels. If these were a representation of what steampunk books are like then I'm in! This is another tale of the adventures of Lily Stargazer. Something I liked about this book was that it was less of a sequel and more of another installment about the same character. I mostly read series because I get attached to characters but the unfortunate side effect is the cliffhangers. These books could almost be stand alone's about the same character. I like that. Moving on.
Lily Stargazer is a unique girl for her time, even given the fact that it's a steampunk novel. She is a sassy Airship jockey in a time where the profession is dominated by men. I love this character. The author has made a strong female heroine that is sort of polyamorous without it coming across as slutty. This book does pick up where the last one left us but starts a new tale. Someone seems to be determined to stop Lily and her team from racing by vandalizing her ship. Meanwhile things are getting serious with Sal until Lord Byron's assistant shows up requesting Lily's presence because Lord Byron is dying. Lily is stuck between her past life and the potential of her future and fate is throwing obstacles at her left and right. From sabotage and adventure to life, love, and death with some magic sprinkled in this book was a joy to read. My only criticism is that the the character Robin and the elements of magic and fairy lore seem a little out of place with the rest of the book. There is going to be a third (and final) installment, so there is still room to elaborate on all that, but it was a little jarring going from the rest of the story to those parts and back again. This book broke my heart a little but I won't spoil it.

Our much beloved flight crew is back aboard the Stargazer for another adventure. This time it i through the love and loss of the heart. I was incredibly impressed at the change of direction in this second novel. While I appreciated the Davinci Code-esque style of the first novel, I really connected to the story this time. There wasn't all the glamour of travelling all around the world in this installation, but there was a healthy dose of back story. We really get to see a better picture of where Lily is coming from and all her connections.

The addition of lore and myth from one of my favorite island nations was a nice touch. I have to say once again, I was really impressed at the direction this novel took with the story line. I had serious time management issues when reading. I did not want to stop and go to work. The pacing was on target for continual intrigue.

The pain and suffering are so real, the spin out of control is so real. Beautiful. Lily is just an absolutely fabulous character. She is so beautifully flawed, so imperfect, and even a tad bit villainous. I respect her. She certainly isn't the girl most parents want to meet, but she is a realistic choice. I will throw some kudos to the men as well because they make fantastic support characters. Each person has such a bizarre tick that I have just fallen in love with.

The final flying scenes were some of my favorite. I was easily able to imagine floating along the blue skies like a bird due to some fantastic descriptive writing. Praise to the writing talents of Melanie Karsak.

Fantastic! Even better than the first one in the series! After the first one I was mournign how easily Lily and Byron parted ways, and this book gave me all the emotional payoff that I could have wanted. The steampunk is mostly limited to the airships, which keeps the tinkering from being too contrived, and theairship racing in this book is great. Lily at the top of her game is so fun and exciting. The new addition to the series of the world of Arcadia really opens the story up for more adventures and higher stakes of tension and daring. I love Lily as a strong female lead. In this book she gives in to her destructive tendencies a bit more but I appreciate that her failings are still decisive rather than waffling and weakness. The revelations into her backstory were compelling and helped me get invested into the character, even as I watched her making some poor life choices.

As with her other books, Karsak writes smooth, believable, snappy dialogue and exciting action sequences. In this book, she amps up the emotional impact with the telling of the Byron story, which really invested me in the book. There is almost nothing that I can quibble about in the book, and enjoyed every second of the read (listen)!

NOTE: I recieved a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
