A coalition of unions supporting film and TV tax incentive legislation introduced this week is having a kickoff event Saturday to begin their efforts in support of the bill.
The event, which is sponsored by California IATSE locals, in conjunction with Teamsters Local 399 and the Studio Utility Employees, Local 724, takes place 2:00 p.m. at Pickwick Gardens in Burbank.

“The goal of the event is to educate the (union) members on the bill that is being introduced and to talk to them about how they can be engaged,” said a IATSE local 80 spokesperson for the campaign.
“After Saturday’s event, we will be engaging in more public efforts and releasing more information about the overall campaign,” said a rep for the Motion Picture Editors Guild.
California has suffered significant losses in production of big budget films and of one-hour television dramas over the last decade, with productions fleeing to locales with strong tax incentive programs such as New York, Canada and elsewhere.
