Megan Khang is making professional golf history at the age of 14. According to Khang and her mother, Nou Kue, young Megan is the first Hmong golfer, man or woman, to ever play in a major, at least as far as they know.

Khang’s hometown of Rockland, Mass., does not have a large Hmong population. Although Khang does not speak Hmong, her mom said she cares about her cultural roots.

“We always remind her that she is Hmong, and that you need to embrace and respect your culture,” Kue said.
