Investigators close Highway 99 south of Fresno as they look into why 2 CHP officers crashed and died Monday morning.

Both CHP officers killed Monday morning were classmates, and originally worked in the Bay Area.

The two officers, identified as Juan Gonzales and Brian Law, died when their patrol car crashed along Highway 99 south of Fresno.

Gonzales worked for CHP in the San Jose area before transferring to Fresno County, and Law started his CHP career in Oakland. The two were classmates at the CHP Academy in 2008.

The two were responding to an earlier accident report in Kingsburg along Highway 99 when they crashed.

“This is a very sad day for us at the CHP as we say goodbye to two valued members of our family. These were dedicated officers who gave their lives serving the people of California,” read a statement on CHP’s official Facebook page.

Investigators are still at the crash scene Monday afternoon, looking into why officers Gonzales and Law crashed.
