OK, I can accept not knowing who an actor is because I do that all the time. But how can you know Matt Damon and not Ben Affleck?

seriously? most famous? No way...

@GnomeSlice Have you seen Chasing Amy? Good Will Hunting? Armageddon? Dogma? Reindeer Games? Boiler Room? Pearl Harbor? The Sum of All Fears? Daredevil? Gigli (I hope not)? Paycheck? Jersey Girl? Elektra? Hollywood Land? Smokin' Aces? Argo?

Dogma!

@Sterno Ah... nope.
Armageddon maybe actually.

2:00 PM
Have you seen Jimmy Kimmel sing "I'm f*cking Ben Affleck?"

Is that the one with the big asteroid and the guy has to stay behind to blow it up
and they draw straws

@fbueckert I hate this game. Two quests in a row without any barroth shells. They're one of the most common items.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I live in Finland playing video games. I don't follow entertainment news. I have no interest what-so-ever who's the subject of gossip in the US...

@GnomeSlice He's the one who has a good cry with Bruce Willis.
And if you don't know who Bruce Willis is, I'm going to go have a cry.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Why is it bad that he is playing batman then?
@Sterno Fifth Element

2:01 PM
@Wipqozn I had to go through a dozen Great Wroggi's to get the Imperial Beaks I needed. Drop chance? 70%. Seventy. freaking. percent.

@GnomeSlice That is absolutely not the movie I would have chosen as his representative film, but yes, that is correct.

@GnomeSlice Because if it's not the same batman as the old batman it must not be as good of a batman and previous batmans.

@Sterno I haven't seen a lot of movies, and that's the first one that came to mind.

@Sterno I have seen: Chasing Amy, Good Will Hunting, Armageddon, Dogma, Reindeer Games, Boiler Room, Daredevil, Paycheck, Smokin' Aces and Argo

At least you didn't say Gigli.
Is Jennifer Lopez still in movies?

2:03 PM
@Sterno Why not? The Fifth Element is the best movie of all time.

@Sterno lol no, and not Jersey Girl either, even though i like Kevin Smith movies

@OrigamiRobot Any movie with Chris Tucker is disqualified from being the best movie of all time.

@Sterno And yet he plays the role perfectly. Or the role is perfect for him. Either way.

Bart Simpson: So Dean Martin would show up at the last minute and do everything in just one take?
Homer Simpson: That's right.
Bart Simpson: But Wikipedia said he was passionate about rehearsal!
Homer Simpson: Don't you worry about Wikipedia; we'll change it when we get home.
[aside, squinty eye]
Homer Simpson: We'll change a lot of things.

"Oh, people can come up with statistics to prove anything, Kent. Fourty percent of people know that." - Homer Simpson

@fbueckert I hate this game.

@Wipqozn And yet, you're still playing. :P

@Wipqozn Go farm Ancientshards. It's so boring.

2:09 PM
Morning, Bridge

@fredley You're worse than Hitler

good afternoon @SaintWacko

Good afternoon @SaintWacko

@BenBrocka By how many Hitlers?

@SaintWacko Morning!
Hey, did you ever see that video of my revolver satellite launcher? I recall you wanted to see it.

2:11 PM
Oh, I did get enough shells!
So I now have a Guard +2 set for lancing.

@fbueckert Never saw a video. Just a picture

Going to see which I prefer, guard or evade lancing.

yesterday, by fbueckert

@fbueckert Nice framerate.

I should play more kerbals

2:15 PM
@fbueckert Couldn't the solar panels be in a less awkard rotation?

@fredley Probably. I wasn't paying attention to that when I put it together.

@fbueckert Can I have a satellite named after me? Or Rebecca Black?

@3ventic Yes, you should.

@fredley You, maybe. RB, never.

@fbueckert That is awesome

2:17 PM
@fbueckert should make a deep space probe named after me

@LessPop_MoreFizz Obvious problem aside, Hobo STD is a terrible resume font.

@OrigamiRobot That would be easy to make; I'd just take one of my satellites, strap a solid rocket booster to it, and let 'er rip.

I only say deep space probe because anything named after me needs the maximum amount of rockets.
@fbueckert Add more rockets.

@OrigamiRobot I named my first probe that escaped into deep space Origami Robot
But it doesn't exist any more, it was in an old version.

@OrigamiRobot I wonder...I could probably make a Gurren Laggan-esque satellite, which docks with an ever larger satellite.

2:21 PM
@GraceNote I think so, but I was trying to do some paperwork at the time and kind of missed it.
@OrigamiRobot You could put an ion engine on it which provides almost no power at all but will run for like a billion years.

@GnomeSlice Solar?

@fredley Yeah I guess.
Electric, so yeah

Screw this, I'm going home! later people!

I think my next project will be to land the manufacturing capabilities to build rockets on Mun. That way, it will take MUCH less fuel to actually get stuff into orbits.

@fbueckert I've been wanting to do that
Didn't know it was possible, though

2:32 PM
@SaintWacko Mods.

@fbueckert Which one?

It's rather involved to set up, though.

I hadn't seen one that allowed you to put a VAB type structure on the moon

@SaintWacko You'll need the Kethane Pack and Extraplanetary Launchers.

2:34 PM
I don't know why it annoys me so much when people refer to themselves as "mommy" and "daddy" when talking about pets.

@fbueckert this looks so fun but you have to be good to use it
@OrigamiRobot It bugs me too. I saw a bumper sticker ysterday that said 'my children have four paws'
It annoyed me

@GnomeSlice See, this would not annoy me. That's why I am confused.

I know what you mean.

@fbueckert Whoa. That is awesome

Q: Where can I find Snek and Zaba in order to unlock their achievements?

jorgheI can't find those two creatures: Snek Zaba I want to get their achievements. Where can I find them?

2:36 PM
I guess because I just read that as "I don't have children, I have pets"

@SaintWacko It will take a rather involved project to even begin building rockets off-planet, but I believe it will be incredibly useful.

@SaintWacko Also
I really want to try this

I have completed 2/3 days of cross country driving and so far have not run over any of Singapore's endangered wildlife. Go me!

I see this image like 5 times per week.

2:38 PM
@OrigamiRobot On Facebook?

@GnomeSlice Whoa, very cool
I want

@PrivatePansy No, just on random sites.

@SaintWacko It's the only mod so far that has interested me.
Although I think it only works with other mods...

I get mad pretty much any time someone compares a pet to a child, like saying that giving your pet up for adoption is the same as giving your child up.

@fbueckert So when do I get a satellite named after me?

2:45 PM
@Sterno I consider my cat as much a part of my family as my human family members.

@MBraedley Nobody has a satellite named after them.

@GnomeSlice I love my cat to death, but I'm sure @Sterno loves his children more.

CC @BenBrocka
@Wipqozn Probably I guess

...I just had a cool idea. I can build a rocket with a payload in the center, and I can build a shell that opens to deliver that payload. I can call it, "The Wipqozn"

@GnomeSlice Obvious data theft is obvious

2:49 PM
@fredley Uh...
No...

@GnomeSlice Program reads all your files

@fredley Only if you tell it to.
You can set the depth it goes searching

@GnomeSlice The whole concept is based around reading your filesystem

Yeah, that's the point.
It generates the world based on it.
It just looks for file types and the file structure

2:50 PM
Wow, yikes
Yeah, not touching that

@fredley That doesn't mean that it steals your data. Programs read your files all the time

@murgatroid99 But something that is specifically designed to dig through your files?

Evelend Games made Pixelry before which was super awesome. I really don't think they're going to steal our data.

@SaintWacko Quite a lot of media players will do that to find all your music files.

@RonanForman Only where you tell it to look

2:52 PM
@SaintWacko You can define that for AdventureOS too
If you want.

@SaintWacko Windows media player just looks everywhere. Which is stupid because quite a lot of audio files on my computer aren't music.

@GnomeSlice Point at empty folder, win game.

@SaintWacko I have a program that shows me how much space each folder is taking up. Do you think that is stealing my data?

@fredley Well, yeah I guess...

@RonanForman Well, I don't use that :P

2:52 PM
@fredley That sounds like a lot of fun

@RonanForman vinylsoft.com

@SaintWacko Neither do I, but it exists, which was my point.

Tempted to pledge $2bn

I have mixed feelings about Miss Scripter (the woman you can hear in that video).

@murgatroid99 Fun is not the point, winning is the point

2:53 PM
On one hand she kept promoting her game Super Tower Rush and then never finished it
on the other hand she's obviously very engaged in the indie dev scene and shit
I don't know if I should hate her or what
It doesn't help that she is really good looking
aaaaaaaaaa indie devs are like my version of hollywood actors
Whom I don't know shit about in the real world

@Sterno Baby Jesus didn't cry. Gosh!

Wee! Scope creep is fun!

How are you going to get on the cloud?

A: Hide or collapse individual comments in chat

Travis JI made this simple script I use sometimes. It works for one-boxes, images, videos, animated gifs, crude language, etc. How to enable You can run this code (at the bottom) either in the console of the browser or from the url with javascript:. I have it saved as a bookmarklet. Once enabled hove...

Too bad you have to be a smart person to figure out how to use this

Scope Creep was honestly one of the worst Batman villans

@PrivatePansy What happened to its ear?

@OrigamiRobot Cancer

Don't horses have pretty big ears?

@BenBrocka And genitalia

3:07 PM
I'm not sure that's relevant

...why is it... how is it that you always approach that subject?

@BenBrocka Not as big as this one, proportionally at least

@GraceNote Are you talking to me?

@GraceNote It's the Bridge. What do you expect?

Are there even male ponies?

3:08 PM
@FEichinger Is this the point where someone shouts "penis"?

@GraceNote Obsession seems like a good option.

@Sterno Big Macintosh

@PrivatePansy Yes.

@FEichinger Expectations being fulfilled does not override bewilderment that this ends up as an expectation.

@GNOMESLICE IS OBSESSED WITH HORSE GENITALIA: DATA ACCEPTED

3:09 PM
@GraceNote Sure, but it's a bit late, don't you think?

No, I don't think it's too late.

Is this like the opposite of the Smurfette problem?

@Sterno Yes, but the ones who have spoken lines number less than the number of fingers on one hand

featuring, among other things, SpaceChem

@GnomeSlice I already have that game 4 times.

Popcorn

@alexanderpas Yeah I think most people here have it

I'm surprised that's still around
though I guess costs are probably pretty low to run it

@BenBrocka What, is this a thing you call and the woman tells you what time it is?

3:11 PM
@GnomeSlice No, actually, I haven't.
Not a thing I ever needed to be aware of.

Sorry.

@BenBrocka Which makes that bill all the more stunning.

@GnomeSlice Yeah. We used to call something like that once a month in school to make sure our classroom's clock was set right

@FEichinger They live from that ministry.

@BenBrocka ._.

3:13 PM
This was of course before phones with easy access to NTP

@Arperum Seems like it. But then again, isn't the speaking clock an NPO?

@FEichinger Yeah I'm not sure how they charge for it

Finally, at long last they're allowing phones with camera on them into camps where I'll be training

> the MoD has made more than 130,000 calls at 30p each.

> People want to celebrate New Year at precisely the right time, they like to double check when the clocks have gone either forward or backward, and they want to ensure they start their two-minute silence at exactly 11am on Remembrance Day.

> Anecdotally, it is also rather popular just before five o'clock, when call-centre staff are desperate to avoid picking up a 20-minute call from an irate customer.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14198506

3:15 PM
@BenBrocka o.ô

Good lord do they not have clocks or computers at all?

@BenBrocka or mobile phones...
or watches...

@BenBrocka The MoD out of all places should have some reasonably precise time displays. Somewhere.

@BenBrocka If the military is like the one here, no
I've seen computers with time that are off by years

3:16 PM
@BenBrocka It would be a pretty good investment, even if they bought clocks for 100£+.

@StrixVaria The bird and me both

Q: What places have the best efficiency for EV training in Black And White?

hammythepigI've decided to look into EV training to make my Pokemon stronger in a competitive battle. I know about how to train EVs, using items such as Macho Brace or Power Bracer etc, but I was wondering what routes/caves/surf areas/other places were best for each specific EV stat. My version is Pokemon...

> The BT Speaking Clock receives around 60 million calls a year.
^-- @BenBrocka

@BenBrocka ...Mountain Dew?

3:19 PM
@GnomeSlice yes

...why

@FEichinger At 30p each that would mean... 18 million pounds every year, wow

@GnomeSlice Mtn Dew is delicious.

@Wipqozn That's a cartoon, pretty sure it's not a good benchmark for the real world.

3:20 PM

Now I just need to acquire a relatively large phone and a bluetooth keyboard and start coding in camp

@GnomeSlice He was addressing the question about whether there were male ponies (which is meaning the show).

@GnomeSlice A male pony is a colt

Oh, I thought he was asking about real ponies.

@fredley Colt, actually

3:21 PM
Some gender confusion going on over here
2

Horse terminology ... ugh.

@FEichinger What's wrong with horses?

@FEichinger Ponies > Horses

Because fuck waiting for hours doing absolutely nothing in camp.

Also I have to get back to work

3:22 PM
@fredley I don't caaaaaaaaaare.

@FEichinger wow people are dumb and bad at technology

@FEichinger You were the one posting equine chat messages!

@fredley I don't caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaare.
@BenBrocka Yep.

@PrivatePansy More specifically, a colt is a young male horse.

Is there a phone line you can call that tells you the names for the genders of hourses

3:23 PM
@BenBrocka I want data on how many of those calls are from mobiles.
@OrigamiRobot You're a young male horse.

@fredley Not everyone uses a smartphone

@fredley at this point it almost has to be a significant %

@PrivatePansy Even the oldest mobile phones had the time on them, prominently

@PrivatePansy What mobile phone doesn't have a clock?

3:24 PM
Also, the time is (or at least by default is configured to be) network time, so it's not wrong unless you made it wrong.

@OrigamiRobot Not necessarily an accurate one. My Nokia dumb phone resets its clock every time I pull the battery out, which I have to do whenever I want to add stuff to the micro SD card

CC @BenBrocka @RedRiderX
okay worktime

@BenBrocka It's about time they oversell xbone stuff

3:27 PM
> the surgery involves stitches, which might leave some scarring around the corners of the mouth, resulting in a somewhat Joker-like grin.

@fredley Oh god the curl on the sides is horrifying

@GnomeSlice This is... depressingly accurate

You wanna know how I got these scars?! $4000 of plastic surgery. Yeah, it's...it's not actually that scary.

I wonder if an army camp counts as an office

@Sterno "If you want to ask people why they downvoted, awesome. If they want to tell you, awesome." Agreed. And that is what I did. I never argued for people to change their vote reasons. I just politely requested people people to consider commenting on why they downvoted my question, in case it's feedback that I could use to improve the question. A couple of people in chat took offense to me commenting and accused me of being "passive-aggressive. Then drama ensued... — galacticninja 48 mins ago

3:30 PM
> "The technology is so good it's basically art," said the representative. "It's become arty rather than sciencey."

@galacticninja I don't want to continue bogging down that question with comments so I'll ping you here. I think mistakes were made on both sides on the comments getting out of control. But it seems like it's starting up again. In particular, your second comment seems to specifically be arguing with a downvote reason you were given.

Basically, if someone gives you a downvote reason you disagree with, shake your head, sigh an exasperation, and then move on. I know it feels like you need to argue with it since it's now in the comments and other people might see it and think "hey, that's a good downvote reason!", but that's the risk you take when you ask them to specify the reason in the first place.

Downvoted because gravatar is primarily orange

Otherwise we just end up with those 20 comment almost-flame-wars. Which, personally, I enjoy reading and participating in, but probably aren't in the best interest of the site.

3:34 PM
@Sterno I like the link of my chat message he's posting. I stand by it 100%. It is passive aggressive whinery.

@BenBrocka Seconded.

@fbueckert Not helpful! But at least it's in chat rather than the comments.

And he is completely misrepresenting my chat comments.

@Sterno Where the vast majority of this discussion is happening.
Hell, I wouldn't even have commented on it in the first place if he didn't do it every. single. time.

There's a reason my avatar is a guy chilling out sipping a tasty beverage while the flames rage on.

3:37 PM
@Sterno Is that Vault Boy from the Fallout series?

@PrivatePansy Yeah. The image comes from one of the perks, but I don't remember which one.

For the most part, I don't even care. I think comments like that actually inhibit downvotes, though, because when it's coming from a 16K user, it sounds like comments are required to downvote.

@fbueckert Sure they do. Just like comments about why people downvoted can cause downvotes. Nothing wrong in either case.

@Sterno Might be the one that reduces damage from your own explosives

@Sterno Exactly. So if one gets made, there should be one on the opposite side to balance it out.
Or, we can just delete them entirely and call it a day.

3:40 PM
@fbueckert This is exactly why I respond to so many of the comments you leave on posts that I disagree with. And I never said providing your downvote reason was bad.
I'm saying arguing back and forth about it almost never is constructive.

@Sterno Probably not. The urge to respond when you think someone is wrong is very strong, though.

Indeed it is.
I mean, obviously I suck at taking my own advice or I wouldn't have any comments on that question.

@Sterno Y'know, I didn't even notice the flames until you just pointed it out now.

I have contented myself by flagging the original comments he's left this time, though.
It irks me greatly that he's deliberately conflating downvotes with being off-topic.
That's misleading to the extreme.

@GraceNote Even I saw that.

3:43 PM
@OrigamiRobot I pretty much parse him as Vault Boy and didn't bother to parse much more of the image after that.

I also think it's unfair to assume that @galacticninja only asks for downvote reasons so he can argue with them. That may be what's probably going to happen, but if you raise a point he considers valid, I think it's safe to say he would indeed make the edit to his question to make it better.

@Sterno I have yet to see him consider such a point valid, myself.

@alexanderpas Oh God

http://orteil.dashnet.org/experiments/cookie/

3:48 PM
@Sterno That's somewhat disingenuous. At 16K, a single downvote or two doesn't matter, and he knows it. He asks that every single time any of his questions garner ANY downvotes.

@alexanderpas HATE NOW!

The general attitude for SE is, "Downvotes happen. Suck it up and move on."
6
I can see asking if you get several downvotes, and no explanation.

Ooh. Is it drama-time?

But every single question, every time it gets even a single downvote? No. That's passive aggressive whinery.

Drama-time was yesterday @Fluttershy

3:49 PM
@Fluttershy Every time is drama-time!

@3ventic Drama-time is all the time.

@alexanderpas The red on gray text is pretty awful.

Well, true, if you manage to piss of your competing clan leader completely, and utterly, by deleting his university studies

Guess what time it is? calls the speaking clock DRAMA TIME!

@FEichinger I am looking through trying to find an example and failing, so you might be right. However, I do notice he leaves comments on stuff that's not even his asking for downvote explanations. I don't think it's about the rep game.

3:54 PM
@Sterno I never claimed it was about the rep. I claim a large part of it is purely inciting an argument about the downvotes.

Fair enough.

God damn this cookie game

He basically considers no downvote reason "valid", in that it requires action from the poster.
There' no other reason to ask for the reason, then, other than to argue against it.

@FEichinger Okay, after going through the first 15 pages of his comments, I am convinced you are correct.
Although actually the question that convinced me is also one where he takes steps to fix the problem.
