The 2013 figures were the first in the country to include revenue from screenings of concerts, operas and other alternative content, known in Japan as ODS (other digital stuff). Such content contributed $74.1 million (?7.64 billion).
Overall, 1,117 movies were released in 2013, marking the first time the 1,000 mark was passed. The releases included 591 Japanese movies and 526 imported titles.
The number of Japanese screens increased from 3,290 to 3,318, after falling slightly in 2011 and 2012.
