State Police say they don’t recommend doing what one local woman did today to thwart a bank robber’s escape, but they did praise her courage. Police say Alexis Laskowski, 38, of Wellsville, held up the PNC Bank at 3405 Rosstown Road, Warrington Township, York County shortly before 10am. He fled the bank on foot towards the Wellsville Lions Club parking lot where he had parked his getaway vehicle. A 51 year-old woman from Wellsville, who was inside the bank at the time, got in her vehicle and gave chase.

As Laskowski drove out of the Lions Club parking lot, the woman intentionally crashed her vehicle into his, causing damage to both vehicles.  Laskowski continued to drive, but only made it about ¼ mile up Old York Road before his vehicle became disabled. Laskowski abandoned his vehicle and fled into the woods on foot. State Police, with the assistance of Northern Regional Police Department, Fairview Twp Police Department, Carroll Township Police Department, and PSP aviation, set up a perimeter around the wooded area where the accused fled. Without incident, the accused was apprehended around 10:30am in the location of Yeager and Lisburn Roads.

State Police say they encourage people to dial 911 and allow law enforcement to respond to take appropriate action.

Laskowski admitted to robbing the M&T Bank, on January 27th, and F&M Trust Bank, on March 14th, both in Boiling Springs.  He also admitted to March 18th robbery of the M&T Bank branch in Mount Holly Springs and the robbery of Fulton Bank in Dover Borough just last week on April 14th.

Police executed a search warrant on Laskowski’s parents’ home in South Middleton Township. They seized incriminating evidence, which included pink stained clothing from the M&T Bank robbery in Mt. Holly Springs.

Charges against Laskowski include 3 counts of Robbery and Theft by Unlawful Taking State Police in Carlisle. More charges are expected.
