TORONTO – The Bachelor Canada wants Canadians to fall in love too fast as the glossy local dating show completes a nationwide casting tour for an upcoming second season.
Good Human Productions sees falling head over heels as a requirement as the Vancouver-based TV producer eyes less setup and quicker pacing and scene changes for its local version of the U.S.-originating franchise.
“Let’s get the desire out and get into the action,” said The Bachelor Canada executive producer Claire Freeland to The Hollywood Reporter.
Canadian broadcaster Rogers Media ordered the reality series as ABC’s Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises continue long runs on its City network.
The need for whirlwind romance comes in part because the second season of The Bachelor Canada has just a 10-episode run and will debut on City in the fall of 2014, long after the bloom came off the rookie season’s rose.
Bianka Kamber, who dated Kris Humphries for two years before the NBA star fatefully married and divorced Kim Kardashian, accepted the hand of former pro footballer Brad Smith in the first season of The Bachelor Canada, which wrapped in November 2012.
And The Bachelor Canada returns with the same challenge as the rookie season: ensuring Canadian lust, lies and love stacks up well against the ABC series.
“We need to make a show that stands out from the U.S. version. That means more style and shorter run-times,” said Sean De Vries, an executive producer at Good Human Productions.
Freeland comes to the second cycle of The Bachelor Canada after executive producing the first season of the dating show as the top development exec at Rogers Media.
Now she’s teaming up with De Vries, who was supervising producer on the first season of The Bachelor Canada.
“We decided we’re soul mates. We make each other better at what we do,” Freeland said of her partnership with Good Human Productions’ veteran director-producer.
The cameras will start rolling on the second cycle of The Bachelor Canada in spring 2014.
