The iHeartRadio Music Awards will return to NBC in 2015.
The network and producers Clear Channel Media have renewed their pact to carry the second annual kudos-cast next year.
The three-hour live event opened to a soft 1.7 rating among the key advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and averaged 5.4 million viewers. The Thursday telecast, which featured performances by Shakira, Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton, Kendrick Lamar, Pitbull and Thirty Seconds to Mars, helped the network improve its Thursday average by 55 percent in the demo.

“We are incredibly proud of last week’s show and our collaboration with Clear Channel. We brought together the most relevant musicians of our time for a special and very successful evening and can’t wait to do it again,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC president of alternative and late night programming. “Between The Voice, Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and our other terrific late-night and special programs, we have become the network that attracts music fans of all ages.”
The iHeartRadio Music Awards were exec produced by Clear Channel Media and Entertainment’s John Sykes and Tom Poleman, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Ian Stewart and Hamish Hamilton of Done+Dusted, who produced the show for Universal Television. Hamilton directed the special.
Live programming — like awards shows and NBC’s Sound of Music special — have become increasingly valuable to both broadcast and cable networks in the DVR era.
