The wait for the new Joss Whedon-directed Avengers is far shorter than you might have thought. Ahead of next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, it has been revealed that Whedon will direct one of two post-credit sequences for next month’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed Whedon’s involvement in an interview with Collider, saying that Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo were responsible for the other sequence.

While the contents of either scene weren’t discussed, the accompanying Collider piece mentions that the Whedon-directed scene “only made [Steve Weintraub, the writer of the piece] more excited for Age of Ultron.”
Assuming the scene directly teases Age of Ultron, The Winter Soldier joins Thor and Thor: The Dark World in trailing the movie-after-next from Marvel Studios; to date, Avengers’ post-credit sequence is the most forward-looking, with the Thanos appearance leading to a movie that’s still unconfirmed, but presumed to be Avengers 3.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is released in theaters April 4.
