Dwayne Salge had just left home when he got a call from wife saying a man was hiding in their back yard.

“He came over the fence,” Salge said.”She heard a banging on the kitchen window and she looked and seen (sic) a young man back there.

Mario Lopez, considered armed and dangerous, was hiding from Woodland police who had set up a perimeter near 4th and Gum streets Monday.

That is where Lopez, 24, had led police on a short foot chase.

“She confronted him. He asked to use the phone and she asked, ‘how did you get back here?’ He (Lopez) said ‘I came through the gate.’ She said, ‘no you didn’t,'” Salge said.

Lopez fled before police could catch him and was later seen jumping a wall near the County Fair mall.

Woodland police believe Lopez burglarized more than 150 homes from November to January.

“There is a lot more to Mario Lopez. He is one of a number of people that are all tied together committing these burglaries,” said Sgt. Brett Hancock.

Police arrested six people with ties to Lopez in January. Lopez turned himself in two days later.

After his release, police believed he committed more than 20 burglaries.

He turned himself in again but fled the Yolo County Jail after reportedly waiting too long to be booked.

“I think the only way they will get him is if he turns himself in again,” Salge said.

Police are now offering a $1,000 reward for Lopez’s capture.
