BRIARPATCH EXPANDS COOKING SCHOOL
BriarPatch Co-op’s Cooking Class series in Nevada City is expanding. “People love cooking classes,” says Hilary Dart, a BriarPatch manager. “They love to taste new flavors.”

With classes costing $30 for BriarPatch member-owners and $35 for others, attendees have found they’re an inexpensive way to learn new skills and make their meals more diverse and interesting.

Almost 30 courses are being offered in April and May with topics that span the globe, including tamales, Arabian food, Thai cuisine, Indian cooking, tempura and soba noodles.

Two new cooks have been added to the cooking class team, including longtime BriarPatch chef Doug Schma and natural-food chef and cookbook author Mielle Rose. BriarPatch.coop

TESS’ KITCHEN STORE ADDS GUEST CHEFS TO ITS CLASSES
Tess’ Kitchen Store in Grass Valley is the premier gourmet kitchen store in the foothills, and it also offers classes in its restaurant quality kitchen taught by in-house Chef Roberta DesBouillons, trained at the Culinary Institute of America.

Now Tess’ is adding some accomplished guest chefs who have settled or retired in our area, a reminder of our wealth of cooking talent.

Alan Tangren, who worked 22 years at famed Chez Panisse in Berkeley, is going to teach a new advanced series of cooking classes.

Artisan cheese-maker Barbara Jenness is teaching a cheese class. Her cheese was invited to the Slow Food Nation in San Francisco.

Annie Wagner is teaching a cake decorating class on April 22.

This spring Tess’ cooking classes include soups, pies, Thai food, appetizers, desserts and more. TessKitchenStore.com
