Director Edgar Wright has left Ant-Man, Marvel’s movie project starring Paul Rudd.
“Marvel and Edgar Wright jointly announced today that the studio and director have parted ways on Ant-Man due to differences in their visions of the film,” read a statement released on Friday. “The decision to move on is amicable and does not impact the release date on July 17, 2015. A new director will be announced shortly.”
Wright’s exit is a shock since the filmmaker, who would have been one of the more unique voices in Marvel’s pantheon of movie directors, has been with the project since its inception in 2006, and the split has occurred late in preproduction.

As opposed to most of its helmers, Wright has not been a director-for-hire, and the project was conceived as a major showcase for the man who made Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.
The movie has most of its leads cast. In addition to Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson are on the roll call.
, I was genuinely surprised — a new album from Bowie? That’s fantastic. I didn’t even know it was on the horizon, particularly with the rumors of his health circulating for the last few years,” says Trent Reznor. “I listened to it while going back and forth to the Valley for Nine Inch Nails rehearsals. It was a puzzle — it didn’t sound like how I thought it might sound. I thought maybe it was a bit conservative sonically. But over several months, it made its way into my playlist on countless bus rides; when I’m sitting alone to listen to music, I reach for The Next Day. I’m still unraveling the riddle that he presented. I’m still getting new meanings out of the lyrics.”
