With the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 still weeks away, it might seem a little early to talk about the fourth movie in the current Spider-Man movie series. And yet, that’s what producer Matt Tolmach is doing, suggesting that we won’t see the ASM4 when we expected.
Sony had previously given May 4, 2018, as the projected release date for The Amazing Spider-Man 4, but in conversation with the Den of Geek website, Tolmach said that things may still be in flux in that regard.
STORY: Spider-Man Spinoff ‘Sinister Six’ Names Director
“Before we know what we do with Spider-Man 4, we’re going to do Sinister Six, Venom and Spider-Man 3. There is going to be a lot of crossover in those movies,” he said. “So we’re just not at Spider-Man 4, because we still have a whole other Spider-Man movie and two other movies. So we don’t know yet what [Spider-Man 4] is going to be.”
The website confirmed with Tolmach that the May 2018 date has been reserved for a movie in the Spider-Man franchise, but not necessarily Amazing Spider-Man 4. Drew Goddard was recently named as the director for Sinister Six, following the December announcement of his writing the spin-off.
