FOLSOM-

The Folsom Police Department released its account of a Aug. 7 officer-involved shooting, which happened after they say a man stabbed a woman and her infant son.

Officers showed up to a home along Montrose Drive after getting reports of a stabbing. They say 20-year-old Jose Reyes-Torres has stabbed his aunt and her 6-month-old nephew, Roberto Varela. The baby died in the hospital. His mother is said to be in stable condition.

According to police, Reyes-Torres was covered in blood and charged at an officer. The officer fired on Reyes-Torres, hitting him once.

Paramedics tended to Reyes-Torres, but he ultimately died from the injury.

Investigators say the motive behind Reyes-Torres’ attack is unknown.
