In response to leaked photos from the set of Star Wars: Episode VII showing the construction of the Millennium Falcon, director J.J. Abrams posted his own picture from the set of the movie on Twitter, offering up a message to leakers and fans alike.
STORY: Josh Trank to Direct ‘Star Wars’ Stand-Alone Film
Firstly, yes — that appears to be the holochess set from the original Star Wars, showing that Abrams maintains a sense of humor about the Falcon leak even as he berates the people leaking the images in the first place. Given that we also know that Peter Mayhew’s Chewbacca will be appearing in the movie, we can only hope that someone will make reference to the fact that, when playing holochess, you should let the Wookiee win at all times.
The tweet is interesting beyond the tease, however; Abrams is famously secretive about his work before its release, but this is the second time in the last month (the Force for Change video being the first) that he has teased details about what fans will see in next year’s Star Wars relaunch. Has the director turned over a new leaf in the wake of fan upset over the secrecy surrounding Star Trek Into Darkness’ Khan reveal, or is this simply both acceptance that Star Wars is something different and using teases of fan-favorite material to distract from whatever core story is being kept hidden?
Star Wars: Episode VII will be released December 2015. Before then, perhaps the Bad Robot Twitter feed might be worth following, just in case.
