Video emerged online on Monday of what appeared to be Beyonce‘s sister Solange Knowles and Jay Z fighting in an elevator at the Standard Hotel after leaving a Met Gala afterparty in New York — creating prime material for late-night hosts’ Monday night monologues.
STORY: Beyonce and Jay Z Make a Statement Appearance at the Brooklyn Nets Game
Seth Meyers took a dig on Late Night on the “footage of Beyonce’s sister Solange attacking Jay Z in an elevator after the Met Gala last week, which brings Jay Z’s total to 100 problems,” he joked. “We have finally found the long elusive hundredth problem! I never would’ve picked that. Whoever had ‘elevator fight’ in the hundredth-problem pool, congratulations!”
After airing the footage (set to elevator music), Chelsea Handler piggybacked on one of the day’s top hashtags — #WhatJayZSaidToSolange, which collected theories for the squabble — and also debated the pronunciation of Solange’s name with her Chelsea Lately panel.
“Sisters need to stick together because blood is thicker than penis,” said Handler, butchering Solange’s name throughout the segment.
As the Chelsea Lately panel tried to figure out the cause of the altercation, Nicole Byer guessed, “Maybe Jay Z was like, ‘Solange isn’t a real name,’ and she was like, ‘It is a real name!’ and he was like, ‘Show me a baby name book!'” Comedian John Caparulo said, “She told him, ‘Do not fart when we get in this elevator,’ and he did and she just wailed on him. He’s like, ‘I ate eggs.'”

“She didn’t do anything during the fight,”Chelsea Lately writer Chris Franjola added of Beyonce in the video. “That shows you what it’s like to be in Destiny’s Child – someone else does all the work while she doesn’t do s— … The Real Housewives of Atlanta called her right away: Solange, we need you on this show now!”
Handler noted that Beyonce’s body language looked like she wasn’t trying to protect Jay Z, let alone Solange, so the host supposed she was mad at Jay as well, but also noted that “it was probably four o’clock in the morning, so they were probably all pretty wasted.”
