Two-time Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes will be this year’s winner of the Honorary Dragon Award, the lifetime achievement honor handed out every year by Sweden’s Goteborg International Film Festival.
Fiennes, who made his international breakthrough in Steven Spielberg‘s Schindler’s List (1993), has appeared in a range of global blockbusters, from the title role in The English Patient (1997) to playing Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films to his supporting role in Sam Mendes‘ James Bond film Skyfall. The British actor made his directorial debut with the Shakespeare adaptation Coriolanus in 2011. Fiennes next appears in Wes Anderson‘s The Grand Budapest Hotel, which will open the Berlin International Film Festival on Feb. 6.
The British star will attend the Goteborg festival, which runs Jan. 24 to Feb. 3.
This year’s festival lineup includes such awards season favorites as Inside Llewyn Davis, August: Osage County, Her and Dallas Buyers Club.
Goteborg’s top prize, the Dragon Award for best Nordic film, will be handed out Feb. 1. This year’s nominees include Ester Martin Bergsmark‘s Something Must Break, which will open the festival; the Norwegian drama Letter to the King from last year’s Dragon Award winner Hisham Zaman; The Quiet Roar from Sweden’s Henrik Hellstrom; the Danish film The Sunfish from director Soren Balle; Finnish Pirjo Honkasalo‘s Concrete Night; I Am Yours from Norwegian director Iram Haq and two Icelandic films: Ragnar Bragason‘s Metalhead and Of Horses and Men from Benedikt Erlingsson.
